Monday morning, I pull my car into the small parking lot and stare at the plain brick building. After a little digging, I found out that Cassidy Bryant is currently employed in the accounting department of Farnsworth, LLC, a company that specializes in print products.

I grab the handcuffs from the passenger seat, stuffing them into my back pocket, and stroll to the front door. There’s a young brunette receptionist there with a perky smile.

“Hello, welcome to Farnsworth, can I help you?” she asks me in a tone even perkier than her smile.

I inch forward and rest my forearms on the top of her large reception desk, locking eyes with her. “Well, I’m hoping you can help me. I’m looking for Cassidy Bryant. She works in accounting.”

Her cheeks flush, and her grin grows wider. “Um. Do you have an appointment with her? We’re supposed to let people in by appointment only.”

I shake my head, letting regret pour in my eyes. “No appointment, but I think she’ll be very happy to see me. I have to return something of hers that she left with me.” I glance down at the woman’s lips, and she licks them, her eyes growing hooded from my blatant flirting. I curve one corner of my mouth and lean forward until we’re close enough for me to see the specks of brown in her eyes. “Can you help me out, please? Just for a moment? It’ll be our little secret.”

She narrows her eyes and studies me, then gives a quick nod. “Yes, but seriously, you can only go back for a second,” she says in a conspiratorial whisper.

I cross my fingers over my heart and wink. “You’re a doll. Thank you.”

I can feel her watching me as I walk through the glass doors into the offices. I meander around the aisles, looking for the accounting department. There it is, near the middle of the room, and her desk is out in the open. Perfect.

And there she is. My heart gives a strange kick as I stare at Cass. She’s chewing on the end of a pen, focused on papers on her desk. I stride toward her desk and stop right in front, and it takes a moment for her to look up at me.

When she does, the pen drops from her fingers and clacks on the desk.

I whip the cuffs out from my back pocket and drop them right beside the pen, the metal clang resonating through the room. “Hey, sweetheart. You forgot these with me on Friday night.” I give her the biggest smirk I can muster.

Her face drains of blood. “I… I’m… Shit…” She blinks, swallows. “I’m glad you—” Then she seems to remember she’s in a public building and looks around. That sexy little flush glows on the tops of her cheeks, and she bites her lip, closes her eyes, swallows again.

My work here is done.

“I figured you might need these for your next date,” I say to her loudly. The entire office has gone quiet, and I can feel the weight of their stares on the two of us.
